A few days ago, I came across some guidelines for the extent of resection for malignant melanoma in a textbook. I'm writing this down in the hope it will be helpful to those working in clinical settings: 1. In situ malignant melanoma: A 0.5cm margin should be maintained. 2. Tumor thickness less than 1.0cm: A 1.0cm margin should be maintained to achieve primary wound closure. 3. Tumor thickness between 1.0 and 4.0cm: A 2.0cm margin should be maintained. 4. Tumor thickness greater than 4.0cm: A 2.0cm margin should be maintained.
